Display old style Dialog Box in AutoCAD 2018

To display a Dialog Box when using the Open, Save As and other commands:

  1. At the command prompt, enter FILEDIA.
  2. Enter for the value.

Embed Images in AutoCAD file

To insert a raster image into a DWG file so that there is no need for an external image file:

  1. Open the raster image in an image editing application, such as Microsoft® Paint.
  2. Click Edit menu > Select All, or press CTRL+A.
  3. Click Edit menu > Copy, or press CTRL+C.
  4. In AutoCAD, click Edit menu > Paste Special.
  5. In the Paste Special dialog box, select the options Paste and Picture (Metafile) and then click OK.
  6. Place the image in the drawing.

The raster image will be embedded in the DWG file as an OLE object and will be saved completely within the DWG file.

Recover Unsaved/Replaced file in AutoCAD

  1. Locate the .bak file with same or similar prefix (name) in the same folder your file was, rename it to any name and make the extension .dwg.
  2. Look for files in your %temp% folder with a .sv$ and .ac$ extension with same or similar prefix (name) as your file and rename it to the extension .dwg.

Enable Drawing Status Bar in AutoCAD

To enable the drawing status bar:

  1. Enter STATUSBAR at the command line.
  2. Adjust the variable to 2 to display both the application status bar and drawing status bar.
